Of Freedom, Steam Sales, and if I can run Crysis

[Picture not directly related, though I did recently buy and watch Kiki, I suggest you do so as well. =D ]

Now where was I? Ah yes. Freedom is such an interesting word isn’t it? It has so many different meanings. See in my life I quite enjoy the time I spend by myself just surfing the web, working on GR and the like but there several occasions where I do not have the chance to. Holidays are one such occasion. This is not to say that I did not and will not continue to enjoy my holidays, no sir. The break from work to have a moderate social life with my family is quite welcomed, and every moment I spent with my Girlfriend was well wanted and enjoyed. But still at the end of the day I do like being by myself doing whatever I want to do (which usually involves absolutely nothing) so instead of continuing my boring talk of Christmas traditions when most people are now bored of such things, hoping to god that supermarkets will stop playing that god awful Christmas music over and over and over….. You get the picture, here’s a look at what I have been doing over the past day and evening.

So for those not into PC gaming you may or may not be aware that Valve’s Steam Service had a MASSIVE holiday sale over the past few weeks, allowing for PC gamers to pick up awesome games for basically nothing in comparison to their full price. I was lucky enough to grab quite a few good deals and over the time that I was unable to play anything due to time spent with my family I had my Desktop Computer constantly downloading the games that I bought with the intention that I would start playing them when I got the chance. The First game I turned on and eventually completed was “Back to the Future: The Game” a cool point and click adventure game from Telltale. Technically I did not pick this up in the sale, as it never was one of the daily deals for the sale and the rule of the steam sale is never buy something that is not a daily deal because if it becomes one the next day you’ll be pissed that you could not save the 15$ and buy something else. Anyways, my time spent playing Machinarium awhile back got me quite interested in the Point and Click adventure genre again, so starting up I was quite excited. I won’t go into large details but the bottom line I have is, if you are a fan of Back to the Future, you should already have bought this game. Seriously. If you not a fan however, as this game is a direct sequel to the movies you might not find it as enjoyable as I did. The only thing I did not like was when the “To Be Continued” popped up but that’s to be expected as a episodic game. At least this one has a release date on Episode 2 unlike other Episodic games I own *Cough* Half Life *Cough*

Next, and the only other game I’m going to mention today that I got from Steam was Crysis. Now Crysis has a reputation as being a game that requires the most powerful computer EVAR to run it properly, however it is now several years old and a bit more manageable then when it first came out, still I was worried that I would not be able to play it. Even though I have said to several people that my Desktop has been able to run anything I have thrown at it I always followed that statement with “Though I haven’t tried Crysis yet”. Luckily for me the game ran fine at 1920×1080 and only lagged when I assume it was loading as it occasionally hanged for a few seconds here and there before I could continue. Now I’ve never been a Huge fan of shooters, usually sticking to Either normal or Easy mode during Single Player and completely avoiding multilayer because I always am against people who have played the games far longer then I ever have, and I have to be honest. Crysis didn’t sell me. Though I only played for about an hour. Sure it LOOKS pretty, but I don’t care how it looks. The game could be 8-bit for all I care as long as I enjoy playing it. Having enemies that can shot me from miles away does not help this. At all. So there was that.

And there’s a taste at what I decided to do when I got back my complete freedom after spending time with family. Now if you excuse me, I have to watch X in an attempt to get the review for it done by Sunday without rushing it. Tara and Stay Frosty.

I remember playing Crysis on a friend’s PC a while back…it didn’t grab me either. It wasn’t, as you implied, fun. I was far more content playing Civ V or Audiosurf.
