Continuing on from when I made my wonderful list of stuff to follow, it looks like I’m starting off the Winter 2011 season with IS: Infinite Stratos, just watched the first episode last night, and my thoughts? A resounding Uuuuuuuuugggghhhhhhhhhhh, and that’s the short version here’s the long version: Uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.
I think I had higher expectations going into this show or something, to be honest I didn’t really look at the show summery that much and went by the picture alone which peaked my interest, so my standards were set relatively high. Looks like I’m going to have to lower them for future episodes later the season.

The show starts off in media as rez, in the middle of a fight scene between humans in armored suits fighting against each other, nothing quite interesting happens, they hit each other, use special attacks, the director cued the special effects department and then the Opening Theme started up.

Before I continue on the plot though I feel that I should quickly mention my thoughts on the mech design for Infinite Stratos, I said the humans were wearing “armored suits” which would give someone the impression of Gundam or some such nonsense but to be honest it was a lot closer to something from Strike Witches with the pilot exposed and such, though with more armor and less obvious panty shots. That should have been signal #1 that this was not going to meet my expectations.

So the actual show start up and we get to meet our protagonist Orimura Ichika, who by first glance is starting his first day in this show’s equivalent of “High School”, though it is reveled to be a private school for special mech pilots that drive Infinate Stratos units or IS for short as is the same as the title. The thing about these mechs that immediately made the long description mentioned above come out of my mouth is that the IS units can only be piloted by Females, and our protagonist Orimura is Male, and happens to be the only Male IS Pilot in the world, making this show fall into the harem genre.
*Commence Head desk maneuvers*
After this realization the usual players come into action, so far only the childhood friend and obnoxious blond female foreigner have come into play but then again this is only the first episode.

We then proceed to learn that Orimura and his childhood friend Sinonono Houki are roommates, (Hurray! -_-) Houki finding this out as she comes out of the shower, which leads into the traditional beating of a male character for stupid reasons that are not his fault.

Oh yeh and the obnoxious blond chick challenges Orimura at the end of the episode for some reason or another I stopped paying attention to it at that point, if this show has one original idea to its name I have yet to witness it. I get that since the studio that made this is new and all, and therefore wants to be somewhat safe with their first venture, I think this is a bit too safe. Maybe I’ll be of a better mindset for the next episode but so far Infinite Stratos seems to be on a direct path to my Guillotine. A Fabulous to start of this Winter 2011 Season eh? Might as well get the shit out of the way…..
